Max Springer CD-ROM

Max Springer, founder of Art Ventures West with Fritz Klein and of Red Tape Studios with Benzene, also represents his own work on CD-ROM. Using Macromedia Director and Adobe Photoshop to generate a multimedia forum, Max is able to tune the presentation of his work to his audience.

This CD-ROM shows a history of Springer's paintings: gallery, museum, and performance records, set within an interactive framework. Slide shows, movies, music, and sound samples interact with the text delineating Max's developments, allowing the audience to come to a better understanding of his art.

Multimedia is a complex art form requiring patience, diligence, and co-operation, in addition to creativity. This disc is meant to help those interested in interactive media get a better understanding of all the different aspects and details involved with its creation. Much like a Hollywood movie, the construction of a multimedia release requires many layers of detailed calculation, and deficiency in even a single layer can be detrimental to the quality of the final production.

The disc also reveals the current direction of Red Tape: many of our extra-musical projects center around multimedia presentation. Currently underway is a CD-ROM version of Damien Filer's book of short stories "From Blood to Water", as well as an enhanced Internet presence for Max and for Red Tape.

This CD-ROM is both a laboratory and an exhibition, both experiment and explanation: a visual companion to the "Red Tape Sampler" audio CD.
